  • Construction Observer

    JOB DESCRIPTION:

    • Inspection of municipal infrastructure works
    • Elevation & grade checks to ensure conformance with approved drawings
    • Quantity measurement of works constructed to date, as they relate to the construction documents
    • Review & preparation of construction progress certificates for payment
    • Coordination of various sub-consultants & municipal authorities for inspection services
    • Reporting overall project status to department manager
    • Preparation of as-constructed documentation for record purposes
    • Negotiation with contractors, clients and approval authorities as it related to site decisions

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Certified Engineering Technician/Technologist or Professional Engineer preferred,
    • Minimum of 4 years site inspection experience in urban land & municipal infrastructure projects
    • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities
    • Ability to prepare concisely written documents
    • Experience in Word, Excel & experience with relevant computer software
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Hold a valid G license and has full access to a vehicle
    • Require own safety boots. Other safety equipment will be provided by UEM as required.

    SALARY/BENEFITS

      If a contract position:

    – Hourly position with rate commensurate with experience
    – 4% vacation pay will be paid in lieu of vacation time
    – Not eligible for UEM health & benefit plan

      If a full-time UEM staff position:

    – 6 month probationary period
    – Starting minimum 2 weeks vacation per year (depending on experience), increasing as per UEM policy
    – Hourly position with rate depending on experience
    – Eligible for health benefits – 3 month waiting period
    – UEM pays for one professional license and one relevant professional association

  • Civil Engineering Contract Administrator

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Lead Contract Administration for civil construction projects, specific to municipal infrastructure
    • Preparing contract documents, schedule of quantities, forms of tender, special provisions/supplemental conditions.
    • Quantity take-offs
    • Periodic Field inspection / field reviews
    • Research
    • Prepare monthly status reports, budget updates, scheduling
    • Prepare payment certificates, change orders, site instructions, clarifications, etc.

    REQUIREMENTS:
    • Graduate of engineering program preferred (C.Tech., C.E.T., or P.Eng.)
    • 4+ years related experience required
    • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office
    • Strong knowledge in AutoCAD preferred
    • Experience with Buiterra an asset
    • PEO/OACETT membership an asset
    • Contract writing and experience with the Niagara Peninsula Standard Contract Document.
    • Familiar with OPSD, OPSS, OPS.Muni an asset

    COMPENSATION:
    • Hourly rate commensurate with experience
    • Competitive salary in the range of $65,000 to $85,000+ (depending on experience)

  • Civil Engineering Designer

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Drafting and design of various civil, transportation and municipal projects
    o Create and modify Surfaces,
    o Detailed grading or roads, parking lots, developments both big and small
    o Design road corridors,
    o Create pipe networks,
    o Create drainage area plans.
    • Assist in design coordination with other project teams (internal & external)
    • Assist in preparing design briefs, design reports, stormwater management reports

    REQUIREMENTS:
    • 8+ years of AutoCAD Civil3D experience with municipal infrastructure
    • Graduate of engineering program preferred (C.Tech., C.E.T., or P.Eng.)
    • OACETT or PEO members an asset
    • Familiar with current Niagara area municipalities engineering design guidelines
    • Familiar with Niagara Region CAD standards

    COMPENSATION:
    • Hourly rate commensurate with experience
    • Competitive salary in the range of $85,000 to $95,000
    • 37.5-hour work week with flexible work-week schedule
    • Starting minimum 3 weeks’ vacation per year (depending on experience), increasing as per UEM policy
